Best Time of Year for Scuba Diving in the UAE
From hot summer months to cool winter days, discover how the changing seasons affect visibility, water temperature, and marine migrations in the UAE.

One of the best things about diving in the UAE is that you can do it year-round. However, the changing seasons bring different water temperatures, varying visibility, and unique marine migrations. Understanding these patterns will help you plan the perfect dive.
Winter (December to March): Crisp Air and Cool Water
Winter is a popular time for outdoor activities in the UAE. Water temperatures drop to their lowest, ranging from 21°C to 23°C. You will need a 5mm wetsuit (and possibly a hood) to stay comfortable on two-tank dives. While the air temperature is beautiful (20°C to 25°C), winter storms can occasionally bring windy days and rough seas, temporarily reducing visibility. However, the cooler waters bring in different fish species and crystal-clear days between swells.
Spring (April to May): The Transition Season
Spring is considered by many local divers to be one of the best times to dive. Water temperatures rise to a comfortable 25°C–27°C, meaning a 3mm wetsuit is perfect. The seas are generally calm, and visibility is consistent. This is also a transition time when plankton blooms can occur, attracting filter-feeders like whale sharks to the East Coast.
Summer (June to September): Warm Water and Thermoclines
Summer in the UAE is hot, with air temperatures exceeding 40°C. Underwater, the surface water can reach a warm 30°C–32°C. While this sounds like bathwater, you will often encounter thermoclines—sudden drops in temperature as you go deeper. Below 15 meters, the water can be 5 to 7 degrees cooler. Summer diving is great for relaxing, warm-water reef exploration, but stay hydrated between dives!
Autumn (October to November): Perfect Balance
Similar to spring, autumn offers excellent diving conditions. The summer heat begins to fade, water temperatures settle around a pleasant 27°C, and visibility is typically at its peak. It is a fantastic time for wreck diving and deep specialty training, with calm seas and abundant marine life across all major sites.
